Case Study
From end-of-shift spreadsheets to OEE in seconds
The Challenge
Manufacturing clients were measuring machine performance on paper and in spreadsheets at the end of each shift. Different supervisors used different formulas (actual versus ideal cycle time, total versus good units), so OEE figures could not be compared between shifts or plants, and simple arithmetic errors hid real losses. Full MES and OEE software was too expensive and too complex for small and mid-sized units.
Our Approach
- Broke productivity down into eight focused calculators, each built around one standard, clearly labelled formula.
- Based OEE on the widely used Availability × Performance × Quality model so results match industry benchmarks.
- Kept the home screen to a simple grid of large tiles, so the right calculator is one tap away on the shop floor.
- Ran every calculation on the device with no sign-up and no data collection, so plant figures never leave the phone.
- Built a lightweight Android app that runs on the budget phones and tablets commonly used on production floors.
The Outcome
- OEE in seconds, not after the shift
- One consistent formula set across every shift
- Eight industrial calculators in a single app
- No sign-up and no data collected
Features
Eight calculators every production floor needs
OEE Calculator
Overall Equipment Effectiveness = Availability × Performance × Quality. See in one number how productive a machine or line really is.
Cycle Time
The time taken to produce one unit. Cycle Time = Production Time ÷ Total Units Produced.
Capacity
The maximum output possible in a given time. Capacity = Available Production Time ÷ Ideal Cycle Time.
Efficiency
How fast the machine runs compared with its ideal speed. Efficiency = (Ideal Cycle Time × Total Units) ÷ Operating Time.
Production Rate
Actual output during operating time. Production Rate = Total Units Produced ÷ Operating Time.
Quality Rate
The share of good units made without defects. Quality Rate = Good Units ÷ Total Units Produced.
Rework Rate
How much output needs to be reworked. Rework Rate = Reworked Units ÷ Total Units Produced.
Labour Productivity
Output per labour hour, so you can compare shifts, teams and lines fairly. Labour Productivity = Units Produced ÷ Labour Hours.

Frequently asked questions
What is OEE?
OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) measures how productive a machine or production line is compared with its full potential. It combines three factors: Availability (running time versus planned time), Performance (actual speed versus ideal speed) and Quality (good units versus total units).
How is OEE calculated?
OEE = Availability × Performance × Quality. For example, 92% availability × 88% performance × 97% quality gives an OEE of about 78.5%. The app does this calculation for you.
What is a good OEE score?
An OEE of 85% is widely treated as world-class for discrete manufacturing, while many plants run at around 60%. The most useful benchmark is your own trend over time.
Is OEE Calculator free?
Yes. OEE Calculator is free to download on Google Play. It is supported by ads and has no in-app purchases.
Which calculators are included?
OEE, Cycle Time, Capacity, Efficiency, Production Rate, Quality Rate, Rework Rate and Labour Productivity.
Does the app collect my production data?
No. As declared in the Google Play Data safety section, the app collects no data and shares no data with third parties. Your figures are only used to calculate results on your device.
Is there an iPhone version?
OEE Calculator is currently available for Android on Google Play.
Know your OEE before the next shift starts
